While stores are reporting somewhat lackluster Black Friday numbers, online retailers fared well during yesterday's Cyber Monday sales.
Numbers released by Coremetrics, an analytics tool used by more than 500 retailers, show a 13.7 percent increase in online sales over 2008, and a 24.1 percent increase compared to this Black Friday.
Murdoch took aim at media competitors in a speech Tuesday, saying award-hungry papers should keep their eyes on readers -- not accolades.

We love the way AOL CEO Tim Armstrong is handling the company's latest round of layoffs before its December 10 spin-off from Time Warner (TWX). He's communicating with employees first, cutting deep, and offering buyouts.
But a source familiar with their execution tells us this last piece -- the voluntary layoffs -- were not a part of AOL's original plans.

Two former New York Post journalists are suing the paper, alleging racial discrimination in the newsroom and that they were fired in part for speaking out against a Post cartoon many considered to be racist.
A suit filed yesterday by former and long-time reporter Austin Fenner says he was banned from entering the newsroom in May 2009 following his public condemnation of the cartoon and a run-in with his editors over a separate reporting matter.

On Monday, a judge dismissed the last in a long line of shareholder lawsuits that argued the companies never should have come together in the first place.
